In-Person

We have a special event for the October Retirement Solutions SIG Meeting. Frank Erzinger of the Houston Investors Association (HIA) will speak about the HIA Income Portfolio, a model portfolio Frank has developed and managed for HIA since January 2020. HIA is winding down and Frank and many of the other members of HIA are coming over to the AAII Houston Chapter to participate in our investor educational events.

Frank will cover the history and background of the HIA Income Portfolio, its mission, and various guidelines that it uses to try and generate high single digit returns at a relatively low risk level. He will then review what is currently in the $500k portfolio and why. He will address the state of current markets and where income opportunities exist and where they don’t. Please join us to learn of new opportunities for investing for income and capital preservation and to share your ideas with us.

Frank Erzinger has BSc and MSc degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Universities of Wyoming and Southern California (USC) and an MBA from Houston University. He is a Professional Chemical Engineer in California. Portfolios for Every Economic Cycle
with Wayne Klump

9:00 am – 10:15 am
Saturday, October 15, 2022

Retirement portfolios are preserved and grown using various trading strategies such as maintaining asset allocations or actively timing the market.  In this presentation, Wayne explains the primary economic factors that affect the timing and probability of success of trades and how to recognize them. He’ll show how to manage portfolios with these factors to create smoother more consistent and more profitable returns for more reliable retirement income.

Three things you will take away from this presentation:

  1. The four primary macroeconomic factors which affect investments
  2. How to choose appropriate positions sizes for trades
  3. When the economic environment is optimal for more consistent and profitable returns

Wayne Klump held positions at Blackpier Capital, LLC, in quantitative analysis, strategy development, ongoing research and optimization of equity trading systems.  In 2020 he founded Sleep Well Investing which develops simple portfolios which reduce market risks.  Wayne has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of North Texas.

To be sure, making the right decisions is an exceedingly complicated task, but it is not impossible.  In this presentation, Wade will identify various risks to retirees outliving their savings and then review and evaluate strategies for safely spending from the portfolio.

Wade Pfau, Ph.D, CFA, RICP, is the founder of Retirement Researcher. He is the Professor of Retirement Income at The American College of Financial Services, a  higher education institution for financial planners. He is author of the book “Retirement Planning Guidebook” (Retirement Researcher Media, 2021).
