Simple but not Simplistic Investing at Home and Abroad
by Alec Lucas, Morningstar
With nearly 8,000 different U.S. mutual funds in existence today, investors have a vast array of options to build portfolios that are broadly diversified across asset classes and geographies. Yet, they also face the challenge of knowing which funds to choose and how to use them well. Morningstar Research Services provides independent and ongoing assessment of best-in-class funds to consider. This talk will draw on that research in helping investors toward a simple, but not simplistic, approach to investing.
Alec Lucas is a senior manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers equity strategies from asset managers such as American Funds, Vanguard, and Fiduciary Management, Inc. Before joining Morningstar in 2013, Lucas worked as a professor for Loyola University Chicago, among other institutions. From 2010 to 2011, he was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Heidelberg. Lucas holds bachelors’ degrees in philosophy and classics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he graduated summa cum laude and with departmental honors, and a Master of Divinity, summa cum laude, from Trinity International University. He also holds a doctorate in theology, with distinction, from Loyola University Chicago and has published several articles and one book within that field.
