Using the Science of Investing to Create More Efficient Portfolios and Reduce the Risk of Black Swans
by Larry Swedroe, Buckingham Strategic Wealth
Investors can use the findings from academic research to build more efficient portfolios, portfolios with lower volatility and ones that significantly reduce tail risk. The reduction in tail risk is especially important to retirees where sequence risk is important, and its reduction should be a focus of portfolio construction. Larry Swedroe will also discuss how the development of interval funds has improved the opportunity set.
Three lessons from this presentation which could be applied to your portfolio include:
- How to think differently about diversification by thinking about factors instead of asset classes
- The importance of understanding the time-shifting nature of correlations, and why that matters
- How to reduce tail risk and thus sequence risk significantly
AAII is making available a recent AAII interview with Larry Swedroe in which he explains how to use factor investing to increase portfolio diversification and help reduce risk.
This will be an interactive Webinar exclusively for the Houston AAII chapter. Meeting attendees will be able to direct questions to Mr. Swedroe and receive answers in much the same way as in our meetings with speakers who are physically present.
Larry Swedroe encourages questions during his presentations. He has provided a copy of his presentation Using the Science of Investing to create more efficient portfolios – Larry Swedroe – Feb. 2020 in advance so that you might download it and think about what questions you might have.
